Reflection on the Unit

Quadratics 1, 2 and 3 have all been very interesting and completely new to me these past few months. In grade 9, I learned about lines, and now in grade 10, I learned about curves - their transformations, different ways to write them, how to graph them, etc. I'm proud of myself for understanding these topics and taking on challenges.

Vertex form, in my opinion, was the simplest. It was a new concept, however, learning it was very straight forward and I demonstrated this understanding on the first quadratics unit test.

Factored form was much more challenging because there were a lot parts to it. It involved many steps which was different than vertex form. Although it was challenging, I feel that I learnt most in that unit. I learned how to solve difficult problems and ask for help, which was something I'm not used to doing.

Going from standard form to vertex form was a 5/10 in difficulty. It required memorization, for the quadratic formula, and remembering many steps for completeting the square. I liked that the unit was very short, it gave me time to focus on one particular thing, rather than rushing through everything.

One of my weaknesses in this unit was communication. I knew how to get the answer, but describing it using words was difficult. This is where I lost most marks on my tests. A way that I improved this was to explain my answers verbally, while trying to practice or review for my test. On my quadratics 3 unit test, I got a 9/9, which I am very proud of!
